Viskas prasidėjo 2010 rugsėjį ir tęsiasi iki dabar. Nors Highlander turnyre liko 8 stipriausios komandos, tačiau susitelksime ties viena - lietuviška, Kiberzona Chior Tai, komanda.

Highlander Community Challange artėja į pabaigą. Tarp 8 stipriausių komandų yra ir mūsų broliai lietuviai. Narsiojo karvedžio Emb vadovaujama komanda Kiberzona Chior Tai jau nugalėjo jau 7 aršias komandas, tačiau kovoje su aštuntąja, nuo jų nusisuko sėkmė ir, deja, teko pripažinti suomių pranašumą.

Komandos sudėtis

Q1 - Can you give us a short introduction of your team and the pub-community/server you originated from?

Our humble warband rose from the biggest Lithuanian TF2 community, TF2.LT (aka Kiberzona). We've got servers specializing in nocrits, vanilla, instaspawn, swordfighting and even bball - something for everyone. The team was named after our community, with a little linguistic joke tacked on for amusement value.

Q2 - When and how did you first hear about the community challenge, and how did you assemble your team?

Shortly before the initial ETF2L announcement, I had been running a series of weekend community events, mostly highlanders of different shapes and flavours - random and seeded teams, unlocks vs vanilla, cross-community battles, that kind of stuff. When the ETF2L newspost arrived, signing up for the Highlander challenge seemed like the logical next step. The bulk of the team was assembled through the community forums shortly after, with the lineup being later reinforced by recruits from other Lithuanian community teams.

Q3 - How did you acquire your buddy, and how much of an influence has your buddy been?

As a long-standing ETF2L veteran, Extremer was the natural choice for the Buddy role, and indeed he was up to aid us in our quest for glory. His counsel was invaluable, especially when we were just starting out. We were also aided by many "buddies" outside our roster, be it with advice or just lending a hand when needed - cheers to the folks from team31 and others, you know who you are

Q4 - How did your team get ready for the tournament? (Practise wars, training mods, strategy sessions, buddy lectures?)

We threw the gauntlet at pretty much every team we could get in contact with, both in and out of the ETF2L ladder. We ended up playing against teams with very different playing styles and tactics, learning from stronger opponents and having a lot of fun in the process.

Q5 - Can you tell us how your experiences were with the organising part of the challenge matches/practises, with 14 team members, and opponents?

Organising highlander practice matches turned out to be quite challenging for a number of reasons. Since 9v9 mixes are virtually nonexistent, matches have to be scheduled days in advance, vulnerable to unforeseen obstacles. The fact that highlander is strictly secondary to 6v6 complicated things a little as well. Though the hardest part by far was getting the designated player for each class every match. Hell, due to a comedy of errors, one game had us without a demoman, so our spy pitched in as demo to carry us to victory. I still have nig

htmares about that one.

Q6 - How do you rate your chances to actually win the challenge? What team (besides yours) in the final eight do you think has the best shot at winning?

We're ready, able and willing to see this through to our victory. That said, I wouldn't be terribly dissapointed if we didn't - the journey here was more important than the destination. As far as other teams go, I'd like to highlight May Contain Nuts for their affinity towards sneaky tactics, which won them games against teams with vastly superior deathmatching skills. Oh, and TwistedPlay and their roster are a wee bit intimidating - to the extent that they might actually win if we don't get to stop their reign of terror.

Q7 - What will happen with your team after the challenge? Will you be participating in a possible follow-up highlander or 7v7 league?

In a way, we have already moved on outside the challenge, with a team in the European division of the UGC Highlander league that has been doing pretty well so far. The Highlander challenge stirred up interest in alternative competitive formats, so we have our fingers crossed for a ETF2L 7v7 league, as it remedies most problems with the 9v9 format and is arguably more interesting, thanks to the flexibility of the class lineup.
